Ok I can admit when I was wrong. The lack on content is starting to trouble me a bit now that I've left Cimmeria.

Any game that I must pay for each month must have more content to keep me busy than Oblivion or Morrowind. Both of these games by Bethesda only take up a few gigs of space on my HD. Age of Conan takes up 30. Yeah AoC had great eye candy but I'm beginning to want content and completion. I'll give them 2 months tops, If I don't see an improvement or things promised implemented such as sieges then I'm gone aswell.

hmmm perhaps EvE. Then again there is always the Elder Scrolls V MMO, that is rumored to be in the works.

No spellweaving in a raid lol?

Spellweaving > Raid, pwn all mobs.

You are confusing AoC with other games too much. Every class is able to raid effectively, there isnt going to be anywhere near as much class bias in AoC as there is in GW.

Playing any class in AoC is going to be far better then playing a mesmer or a sin in GW.

Well this is good then. I did not read that statement. Hopefully they will take an approach similar to EvE where they add content and don't charge you for it. Time will tell.

That said, combat is still second to non other and is the best I've ever played on any fantasy first person style genre. I'm also enjoying the fatalities.

Short review :

Soldiers :
Guardians - Best main tank class because of full plate and good mitigation feats, currently sword+shield is very good DPS, have decent CC. Will be good in PvP as well.
Dark Templar - Difficult class to master, lowest dps class in the game, so a liability in PvP currently, solid tank in instances. Need mechanics changes to be viable in pvp...might offtank in raids or something
Conquerer - Squishiest tank class because of lacking a shield. But have the best buffs amongst all 3. Preferred tank in 6man instances because of buffs and good aoe tanking. Also the highest dps tank class when dual wielding. Viability in small scale pvp is pretty bad, but they should do great in sieges.

Priests :
Priest of Mitra - Overpowered and likely to be nerfed soon. Can take on 15 mobs at a time and end the fight with 100% health. Supposed to be the main healer, but the DPS is pretty absurdly high.
Tempest of Set - Was overpowered at launch, a couple of nerfs later, they're still extremely strong. Probably the highest burst in the game. Weakest healer among the 3, but their nuking is still very high. I expect more nerfs.
Bear Shaman - Start out pretty slow, but exceptionally good at higher levels. A lot of offensive buffs and great sustainability. They're hard to play because of the nature of melee+healing.

Rogues :
Assassins - Fun class, but badly gimped. Stay away from it till its buffed.
Barbarians - Very strong and fun class. Have a ton of CCs if you go 2H(pvp) and excellent dps through dual wield(pve).
Rangers - Good balanced class, but leveling will be hard because they're one of the few classes without decent AoE.

Casters :
Herald of Xotli - Very, very high DPS. But really squishy. Fits the definition of glass cannon perfectly. Good AoE as well.
Demonologists - Boring.
Necromancer - Fun class thats great at 80. You can take on 10+ mobs and live, but need survivability buffs for pvp.

Oh, and there's a lot of stuff still broken. I'd expect the game to get into a decent shape 2 months from now.

I just wonder about their endgame content.

Levelling in Age of Conan is fast and easy. Now I suspect they expect people either to raid or do siege battles and similar pvp things, or both.

There area already people who are level 80, and while they might really be hardcore due to levelling up so fast, the question they raise is nevertheless valid: What to do now?

The Siege Battles and Border Kingdoms are in a totally (zero percent) unfinished state, and Gamespot does not mention it. Outstanding Gameplay? Where? The silly mortal kombat combos that replaced the control over sword and shield they planned early on? The non-existing difficulty of the trash mobs and the dungeonboss of the first dungeon bugged since release???

Kevin Van Ord also played the 3 hours live gameplay event. I was masochist enough to watch it, and he and his buddy knew less about AoC than Gaile about GW.

Age of Conan shows promise indeed. But this was not a honest review. Blind of reality and emphasizing blood and graphics. Ignorant of flaws, broken promises and missing content. Heck, even armor and weapon diversity is a problem!

Once people hit 80, this game has so much less to offer than WoW or GW at the moment. Even if we take in account that has just been released. And one must be really optimist to believe they will add so much more to the game in a timely fashion.

There must be some AoC virus. People flock to the new MMO on the market, happy to get a new fix of MMO drugs. If we would analyze AoC as thoroughly as GW, we could fill the whole of Riverside with dozens of threads about the major issues only.

My three alts for that very reason XD

I like Gimped. I also want a PoM and HoX and then thats it.

I tried both the HoX and Sin, and actually found the sin more fun to play. I also like the challenge of being a squishy cake expected to engage in Melee all the time. With the HoX, although you only have cloth armor, they have a lot more AoE and damage output then the sin. I think I will roll HoX and PoM on a PVP server, the others I have on PVE.

How long did it take to get Sorrows Furnace in GW? I dont think it was there at release. Originally, GW also had very little high end content, it was added as more and more players finished playing through the game.

I am leveling slowly for that very reason. I am finding it more fun to just trial all of the different classes for the first 10-20 levels before focusing on one of them. I am also not going to go beyond level 40 on any of them for a while.

The reason being that I will enjoy level 40+ far more after the new content is added. Rather then rush and grind to lvl 80 and be bored from the lack of content, I will use the first 30 days to play my way with several characters. If there isnt much added at the end of the 30 days, I will cancell my sub before payment is taken and return later.

Regardless of the lack of content right now, it is still a good game. Dont forget that you can complete each GW campaign in a few days each, and after that there isnt much more content then title farming. At least in AoC they are going to be adding more content as the game grows and matures.

Do not worry, you cannot avoid levelling up really fast in AoC. Even as an Assassin, one of the most gimped classes at the moment. Even if you try to do it slow and smell all the roses, to quote Gaile.

Then you might re-evaluate your statement. I played GW since release, and there were no titles to keep me entertained. I like the game better in these days and it kept me playing with minor breaks till EOTN. Age of Conan has yet to show that, I did not worry about the future at level 16 in GW, in Age of Conan I already do at level 62/80.

If you're in a good guild in a PvP server, you'll have enough to do. Content is only a temporary fixture while you wait for the bloodshed. The only reason to level is so that you can kill better

But yeah this game needs a good endgame soon.

I may very well end up fed up of AoC after 30 days, but there will be new content added regularly. The two are very different and cant be compared in the same way. Guild Wars is a short, fast PVE experience followed up by optional grind. AoC is supposed to be a longer PVE experience, but grind is a part of that. But I am finding the grind, and my assasin fun.

On the assasin, Providing that you get the opportunity to sneak attack and have the best daggers for your level, you can 2 hit kill enemies of the same level as you. However, they are gimped in this respect because you cant sneak during the day, so you have to engage in lengthy melee in your cloth armor.

Allowing sneaking anywhere anytime on the rogue classes, and allowing assasins to wear light armor would make them a lot more balanced.

Sounds like assassins are always getting the short end of the stick lol. I wanna play Age of Conan but that monthly subscription isn't really what I'd like to have.

Sieges aside, the end game content is there. All the raids are there (i think about 7 instances or so?). The only thing missing (besides the obvious lack of level 80s to do them together) is the loot tables.

They're already said to be on the way, which will give people an incentive to do them.

Not to mention alot of instances are said to be getting an overhaul this month.

Wut? People don't randomly use search, and the light meter doesn't effect whether players can see you. So as long as you tail them and let them aggro, you can sneak just fine.

I just wonder what the incentive will be, Dan. The issue is the itemization.

Besides that, I am waiting for siegle battles or blood coins (I have no idea what they are actually, but it seems to be something like honor points).

Back to itemization: It is odd, on weapons you see some damage stats and on armor usually a +defense, +x vs slashing, +x% mana or so. I do not see a number for armor values or so at all, but heavy armor with worses stats is definitely better than light armor with better stats e.g..

People at 80 already reported hard stat caps, which already caused some turmoil. For some odd reason the level 50 armor is better than the level 6x crap that I get at the moment. I still do not have a freaking clue how armor works. Some classes make more out of the same armor, and heavy armor absorbs more than light armor. About the stats and mechanics behind them - no idea. The same for weapons.

I hope I will have figured that out before level 80 and before raiding for gear. I actually wanted to upgrade my system with GW2, so if they add pvp battle content soon, I might have to upgrade earlier.

I enjoy blowing shit up as HoX, but I'm already bored. I don't want to play any gimped players, so playing the DT or sin is out.

Might do a Priest soon :P

The game is so pretty, but I'm really disappointed overall.

My computer also is taking a huge hit from the seriously unnecessary 30gig reservation.

I might try Eve, but GW is still interesting to me.

EVE...I hope you have lots of patience, and I emphasize lots. That game is the most complex MMO out.

The beginning tutorial takes 4 hours or so. Not one for the casual player.
